One possibility is the trash can with a liftable top, where you manually lift the lid, which is usually hinged, to drop your trash cans: simple mechanical parts and very little to break.

The next type of trash can has a turning top cover, where you push the cover down, and one side goes down while the other goes up. In theory, you should then put your waste in the bin. Believe me, it doesn’t work like that at least half the time!

The reason is that once the bin is half or more full, you cannot push the lid very far because the garbage gets in the way. That means half the time, and I have to remove the cover altogether to throw it in the trash, which goes completely against the goal of even having a cover with a tilting cover.
